Reeling Wild silk

Raw silk is made by reeling high-quality cocoons by hand.
The beautiful luster of wild silk is the product of skillful handwork of silk reelers.

Process to produce Hotaka wild silk

Pre-boiling cocoons → Brushing → Reeling → Skeining

Cocoons become softer and looser by boiling beforehand.

“Brushing” is the process to find and pull out the end of silk threads from the boiled and softened cocoons.

Several silk threads drawn from the cocoons are grouped and twisted as one yarn as thick as 42 deniers. This process is called “reeling.”
